The Ford Escape is available in three trim levels: XLS, XLT, and Limited. Standard equipment on the XLS includes 16-inch alloy wheels, an outside mirror with an integrated blind-spot viewing feature, keyless entry, MyKey parental controls, full power accessories, cruise control, air-conditioning and a four-speaker stereo with CD player and auxiliary audio jack. The Synch electronics interface (includes iPod interface and Bluetooth) and steering-wheel audio controls are optional. The Active Park Assist option employs sensors to measure a suitable parallel parking space that uses electric steering.

The XLT model adds automatic headlights, foglamps, and auto-dimming review mirror, a six way power drive seat, steering-wheel audio controls and satellite radio. The Leather package includes leather upholstery, heated front seats and ambient lighting. Finally, the Sport Appearance package contains 17-inch wheels and a variety of upgraded interior and exterior trim pieces. The premium Limited trim contains all of the standard features of the XLT, plus the added features in the Sport Appearance package.

This front-wheel drive, electric power steering compact crossover has a manual transmission with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. The Ford Escape pumps out 240 horsepower with the ability to tow up to 1,500 pounds. Compared to other compact SUVs, the Ford Escape gets an estimated 23 miles per gallon in the city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway.

The Escape is also available in a hybrid model. The 2011 Ford Escape Hybrid has many of the same features as the 2011 Escape, but features a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine as well as a battery-powered electric motor. Together, they produce a combined 177 horsepower. Power is sent through a planetary gearset-based continuously variable transmission (CVT) that provides seamless transitions between gas and electric modes. EPA estimates for fuel economy put the front-wheel-drive Escape Hybrid at the top of the hybrid SUV category with 34 miles per gallon city, 31 miles per gallon highway and 32 miles per gallon in combined driving.

The 2011 Ford Escape has abundant safety features, earning a perfect five stars in both front and side crash tests in government testing. Antilock brakes, traction control, stability control, front-seat side airbags and full-length curtain airbags all come standard. All Escape models also are equipped with AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control. It is the only available stability control system with gyroscope sensors that measure both vehicle yaw and roll motion.

The Ford Escape is safe, powerful, and a trend setter when it comes to compact SUVs.
